Staff at the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) will not need to worry about retirement when the time comes. This follows the ministry’s resumption of retirement trainings aimed at equipping staff who have one to four years to retire from public service with skills and financial literacy.
On December 2, the ministry’s Human Resources department conducted a Preparing for Retirement training focusing on among other topics financial management, relationship building and optimal utilization of gratuity. The well-attended workshop was an eyeopener for participants, especially the opportunities life presents when one retires.
“The modern innovations in farming create an opportunity for one to engage in piggery or bee-keeping without the need to wear down the body physically,” noted one of the participants. “I’m looking forward to managing my farm using the latest technologies.” The exercise which was last conducted five years ago will be conducted more frequently to enable the persons who have served diligently to ease into retirement smoothly.
