Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industries and Fisheries - Information System for Food and Nutrition Security Project

Available data on food security and nutrition in developing countries such as Uganda is often of poor quality and unreliable because of the different methods used in collecting it. The diverse nature of information generated on food security and nutrition using varied sources often leads to differing and sometimes conflicting responses to addressing the underlying causes of food insecurity.

In order to address this problem, the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) is supporting the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) to implement a TCP project coded UISFNS (Uganda Information System for Food and Nutrition Security) which aims at providing qualitative and quantitative data as well as information on the food insecure and malnourished and vulnerable population in different parts of Uganda in order to understand the underlying causes. The TCP project aims at harmonizing the existing systems of collection, reporting and monitoring of food security and nutrition data while availing information for better decisions.
